After figuring out my biggest mistakes so far. Or should I say after overcoming the denial phase 😅. I started rethinking what I should do with my life. Should I just go back to full-time freelancing/consulting or get a cushy job and forget about all this shit? You know the answer. YES! That’s what sensible people do. Many of my SWE friends would for sure tell me to do it.
So, of course not. I am not going to quit.
I am sitting here alone on a night in a little city in a third-world country. Not having made a single SaaS dollar, I just threw away what I made in the last 8 months, etc (link to full rant).
I can feel the pain now, deep inside, and I like it. I like difficult things, not because they are fun, they sometimes are, but because they are difficult. And, I am pretty sure I will figure this out.
Going full-B2B
After going through my business decisions for CodePortal last week, one of my key takeaways was that I was not choosing the thing I could have the best chance to make money in.
Serving makers or indie-hackers felt relatable, but people have tighter budgets, and it is closer to B2C than B2B. So, it is a harder place to start. I still want to serve that space, but maybe later.
Therefore, I am changing my target market and value proposition. This doesn’t change the product or the area much, though. And I am still tackling something I have a lot of knowledge of and have seen problems firsthand. I am connecting the dots here! I have a deep connection with the problem and space.
CodePortal will help companies with internal tools and apps. It goes way narrower, but I will tell you more as I go. The product will have my own touch; therefore, the key differentiator will be the tech and product and a bit of the market segment. I spent last week doing research and exploring the whole space.
I still haven’t changed even the landing page, but I am starting to figure out how to repurpose what I have and how to start this. The GPTs, the natural language-centric coding approach, and visual programming all still apply, just to a different problem.
See you next week!
