Hey people! After last week's rant, some people unsubscribed here and on my Twitter/X which I can relate. I don’t like negative people, either. I am overall an optimistic person, but I am going to keep this real. I am not gonna lie just to make this look pretty or pretend I know what I am doing, which I kind of do … kind of don’t 🤷🏽♂️. Anyways … I do this mostly for myself but also to document my process so I (and maybe other people) can look back and reference this.
I don’t have plans to stop publishing this newsletter for at least the next 5-10 years, so I am looking forward to seeing what the “Week #100”, “Week #200,” and “Week #260” posts of this newsletter will have in them. I am really curious! 🤔 And, I am ensuring my actions align with what I want by then.
What do I want? I want to create a big business that lasts and has a long-term impact on society. That sounds pretty naive, right? Well, it turns out this is a type of company. There are lifestyle businesses or what people refer to as “small” businesses. People don’t like the term “small”, maybe because of sexual stuff 😅. But to be fair, it’s not that they are small. It is that they are not aiming that “big”. The kind of business I want to create is the kind that aims big. Usually, this type of business raises VC money at some point. Not necessarily at first, but at some point, maybe post-traction, or post-revenue, it depends on many things.
You could say, well, the bigger is the best, right? NO! As in software, it depends! Hey SWEs 👋. I feel like talking to different parts of my brain here 😁, my engineering brain and my business brain. It depends on your goals and ambitions, willingness to take risks, sacrifices, etc. This can be a thing for a whole article, but you can look this up online if curious.
